Canine Diabetes

Hello, my name is Renee and I have a 7-year-old dearly loved Alaskan Malamute named Dakota who was recently diagnosed with diabetes. I find precious little information about management or even support in my decision to work with the vet to manage his sugar. He goes in again on Thursday for hopefully his final blood glucose level check to see if the current level of insulin is the correct dosage to manage his sugar. He is a wonderful boy who deserves his health! Any advice out there?

Hi Renee – I don’t have any experience with Diabetes in dogs, but I have lived with two different cats who developed it. It’s pretty easy to manage, particularly nowadays with the advances in treatment and special foods, it just requires a little extra time and patience which I’m sure won’t be a problem in your case. :) Good luck to you and Dakota!
