Vet Visit for 11-year-old Cat

I’m taking Pookum to the vet tomorrow to get her bloodwork run. She visited 5th Avenue Cat Practice in February but they didn’t draw blood. I’m worried but that’s because at this point even a sneeze from one of the cats sends me into a frenzy. Anyway, we’re taking her to Barc to get the bloodwork done. It’s less than half the cost than it is in the city.

We’re still hunting around for another vet, preferably one as friendly as the 5th Avenue Cat Practice but in Brooklyn. If anyone has any suggestions, kindly let us know.

Does anyone else get worked up over taking their little guys in for a checkup? I hate putting them through the car ride there and all the poking and prodding. It breaks my heart every time. I need to get over it, however. Because we have Tucker who is due and the little guy, Murray, is only just starting out in life. :]

Yeah, it’s never easy, in my experience. We have to take Dub in for a checkup, routine bloodwork and to get refills on a couple of his prescriptions on Saturday and I’m already dreading it… he HATES getting into his carrier, HATES being on the train (not that he does any better in a car), and he gets cranky with the techs when they draw his blood. They are so patient with him.

I wish there was an easier way… like a vet who makes house calls!

There are vets who make housecalls! I had the name of one at one point, but lost track of it. I would like to do that for Seven. She transforms into a hissy monster that strikes terror into the hearts of all who approach her carrier. She’s knocked it off the examination table (with herself in it) before by thrashing around. They always have to sedate her to get anything done. :(

I worry that’s what Pookum is going to act like tomorrow. You always want the person to know, “When we’re at home! She’s so nice!” I hope they realize this.

Plus, she (Schmitty, too) shed like mad when they are stressed. And somehow the dandruff comes out as well. Poor little guys.

Good luck with Pookum. (How’d it go, if you’ve taken her in already?) Seven always poops in her carrier too. I wonder if it’s fear, or more like a “Well, take THAT!” kind of thing.
